Off the Grid; here we come

Earthship post #1

July 2016

Last night was the first night we slept out here on our land. We cleared off a bunk and Zane stayed here too.

I had a hard time sleeping between the dogs panting, the cat purring in my ear, and the heat with absolutely no wind.

My hand and fingers are numb, so it hurts to write this, but I feel it’s important so we can look back and see how far we’ve come in our journey.

One thing I have to say, the coyote’s howling last night was pretty cool. Also, the train sounds amazing up here echoing off the walls of the canyons. Otherwise it’s so quiet.

It’s funny I thought I’d unhooked, unplugged, and was ready for this. I found out very quickly I’ve been pampered, and very spoiled. We don’t have electricity, or running water. Well, we have some limited water and supposedly we have propane, although the fridge doesn’t work. All the food I brought with us will have to be thrown away.

When I was a little girl, I used to imagine what it would’ve been like to be a pioneer. I know this is nothing like that, but we are once again a little ahead of our time. Roughing it for sure.

I find myself drawn to my journal and my Bible. Amazing what happens when you shut out all the noise.

I can’t imagine being unplugged. I love Alexa, my AI [artificial intelligent] Echo from Amazon, and my iPhone and tablet. Spoiled is right!

You’re probably wondering why I am leaving a comment at this point, since you posted this in July of last year. Well, if I’m not taking care of things at home, I’m at my parents doing the same or watching movies on Amazon Prime.

Finally though I’ve started to read. 📕

I have really enjoyed reading through your adventure. It has been especially fascinating in backwards date order. I hope you continue your chronicles. Then I can not only live vicariously through your saga but hopefully be inspired myself. 🌸Belinda
