Earthship Blog Post #10
November 4, 2016
So many things have happened. The septic system is in. The solar is up and running and we’ve moved the campers right by the build site. We hooked up the solar and the first thing I noticed is that lack of noise. It’s so quiet here without the deafening sound of the generators every night.
One morning I looked up from the breakfast table and a herd of deer were moving through our property from the ravine. We counted between ten and twenty does. My son and I spotted a couple more as we pulled up to our driveway the next day. It’s surprising to me, being a Colorado girl, how excited I still get seeing wildlife move through day after day. It’s pretty cool.
My parents helped us move our campers south last week. My dad brought his “Tiny Cabin” down so they could have a place to stay while visiting family and friends. I’m pretty sure the real reason is for him to have a way to still seek adventure, even though he’s 84 years old.
They came back a few days ago to help us get the campers ready for winter. Which is a little difficult to imagine since the temperatures are very warm. It feels more like September than November. My folks stayed in their cabin. It was fun having them here. Mom came over and visited and we enjoyed them a lot. They were treated to a coyote serenade and I spotted a few stragglers going back up the mountain to their dens the next morning.
I started NANOWRIMO this week, so I’m more overwhelmed than ever.
So… here is the really BIG news! Dave called the county yesterday and we picked up the building permit!!! We can officially start pounding tires!
That being said, we’ve come to a screeching halt. Once the guys got the house laid out, we realized it’s going to be too small. Now we have to decide to what to do. If we push out just a few feet, we’ll have the square footage we need. But, then there’s the vigas (the wood poles that span the ceiling from front to back). There are other things to consider as well. We’ll have to pray and pray hard for guidance. Plus we’ve hit the wall on our finances….Our money is gone. Time to save some more, or make a lot in a short amount of time. We will wait on the Lord for answers. Winter will be a time of reflection, and planning for the abundance of spring.
Isaiah 40:29-31 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.
Thanks for the update on your project! I can so relate to the part about the deer. My renter has a new German Shepard. He’s a super cool dog, but the deer have all but vanished. Makes me very sad. Keep writing my friend! You’re doing a great job!
Be Blessed,
Kristi
Thank you so much Kristi. Sometimes it seems like this will never happen. God is surely teaching us to be patient and wait on his timing. Thanks for your support.

I’m looking forward to reading your next blog to see what you decided to do with regard to increasing the square footage of your earthship. 🤔
